Common Questions
What counts as an import or export?
Each run of the import or export wizard counts as one operation against your monthly quota. Uploading an Excel file with 500 rows and pushing it to AGOL = 1 import. Downloading your service as a Shapefile = 1 export. Generating an Excel field template = 0 operations — templates are always free on all plans. Scheduled exports each count as one export when they run (e.g. a daily schedule uses 30 exports per month).
Do I need ArcGIS Pro or a Desktop license?
No — that's the whole point. GISGP talks directly to the ArcGIS Online REST API, so no ESRI desktop software is required at all. You only need an ArcGIS Online account with at least Editor rights on the target Feature Service. A standard Named User or Creator license in your org is enough. Viewer-only accounts cannot edit feature data and will not be able to run imports, but can still use exports and the free tools.
Is my GIS data stored on GISGP servers?
No. When you upload a file (Excel, Shapefile, KML etc.) it goes to an isolated AWS S3 location for processing and is deleted the moment the operation completes — usually within seconds. Your actual feature data is never written to any GISGP database. We only store metadata: row counts, timestamps, service URLs, and field mappings so you can reuse them next time. Your data stays inside your own ArcGIS Online organisation at all times.
What file formats are supported?
Import: Excel (.xlsx), CSV, KML, KMZ, and geotagged JPEG/PNG Photos (Starter plan and above). Shapefiles can be imported as a ZIP containing .shp, .dbf, and .prj.

Export: Excel (.xlsx), CSV, Shapefile (ZIP), KML, KMZ, and GeoJSON. All plans with export quota can use every format.

PDF Service Reports are also available as an export option — a formatted map + attribute summary sent as a PDF email attachment on Pro and above.
How does field mapping work?
During the import wizard, GISGP reads your source file's column headers and your AGOL service's field schema side by side. You drag-and-drop (or auto-match) each source column to the correct destination field. GISGP validates data types — flagging mismatches before anything is pushed. Once you've set up a mapping you're happy with, you can save it as a profile and reuse it next time you import to the same service, saving you from repeating the process every run.
How do scheduled exports work?
Choose a service, output format, an optional WHERE filter to limit the records, and set a frequency — hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly. At the chosen time, GISGP automatically queries your AGOL service, converts the data to the selected format, and emails it to you as an attachment. No manual steps, no dashboard login required. You can also send a test run immediately from the Schedules page to verify the setup before the first scheduled run. Available on Starter (1 schedule), Pro (5 schedules), Team (10), and Business (25) plans.
What are service health monitors?
Health monitors ping your AGOL Feature Services once per hour and alert you by email if a service goes down. You get notified on the first failure, and again every 24 consecutive failures — so you're not spammed if an outage drags on, but you're still reminded it's still down. Monitors are available on Starter (1 monitor), Pro (2 monitors), Team (5), and Business (15) plans and are managed from the Schedules page alongside your export schedules.
What are team seats?
Team seats let colleagues share your subscription's monthly quota without needing their own paid plan. The account owner invites team members by email — they accept via a link and can immediately start running imports and exports against the owner's services. All usage (imports, exports, schedules) draws from the shared pool. The owner can see all activity in the history log and remove members at any time. Team plan includes 5 seats total (owner + 4 members), Business includes 10 (owner + 9 members).
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, at any time from the Billing page — no hoops, no support ticket required. You keep full access to your paid plan until the end of the current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the Free plan (3 imports / 5 exports per month). Your saved services, field mapping profiles, scheduled export settings, and history are all preserved — nothing is deleted when you downgrade.
Is there a row limit per import?
Yes — each plan has a maximum number of rows per single import run: Free (100 rows), Starter (2,000), Pro (5,000), Team (50,000), Business (250,000). Export row limits per file: Free (2,000), Starter (10,000), Pro (25,000), Team (100,000), Business (250,000). If your file exceeds the limit, GISGP will reject it before pushing any data so your service stays clean. For large datasets that exceed your plan's limit, you can split the file into batches, or upgrade to a higher plan.
What AGOL token or login do I use?
You can connect to AGOL in two ways. The easiest is to use the Sign in with ArcGIS Online button on the login page — GISGP uses OAuth2 and never sees your AGOL password. Alternatively, you can paste an AGOL-generated token directly into the token field when adding a service. Tokens can also be auto-generated from the Services page using your AGOL username and password (stored encrypted) so they refresh automatically before expiry. For public (no-token) services, no credentials are needed at all.
