    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about exploring an ArcGIS REST Feature Service.

What can I see here that I can't see by just opening the FeatureServer URL?
The raw REST JSON is hard to read manually. REST Explorer parses it into three organized views — Overview (service metadata), Fields (full schema table, exportable as CSV) and Domains (every coded-value domain) — without ArcGIS Pro or writing any code.
Does it show the feature count too?
Yes — the Overview panel includes the layer's record count alongside geometry type and spatial reference, fetched live from the service.
Can I export the field schema?
Yes — the Fields panel has a "Copy CSV" button that copies the entire field table (name, alias, type, length, nullable, editable, domain) to your clipboard.
Does it work with ArcGIS Enterprise, not just ArcGIS Online?
Yes — any standard ArcGIS REST FeatureServer or MapServer layer endpoint works, whether hosted on ArcGIS Online or an Enterprise portal, as long as it's reachable from the public internet.
    Is a token required?
Only for private/secured layers. Public services work with just the URL — no token, no login.
