Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about exporting ArcGIS Survey123 data.
What data can I export from Survey123?
All survey responses as a table — every question becomes a column. Includes geolocation (latitude/longitude), submission timestamp, and the AGOL username of the respondent. Coded-value domain fields are exported with their labels. Attachments (photos) are not included in the main export — they reside in a separate attachments layer.
Do I need ArcGIS Pro or a paid Esri licence?
No. GISGP connects directly to the ArcGIS Online REST API. You only need the survey's share URL or item ID — no desktop software required. Works with any public survey or any private survey you have access to.
How do I find my survey's URL or item ID?
Open your survey in Survey123 website → click Share → copy the survey link. Alternatively open ArcGIS Online → My Content → find the Survey → copy the Item ID from the URL. Both formats work in this tool.
What export formats are supported?
Excel (.xlsx), CSV, Shapefile (.zip), KML, KMZ and GeoJSON. All formats include the survey responses. Shapefile and GeoJSON also include the point geometry if your survey collects location data.
Can I automate Survey123 exports on a schedule?
Yes. After loading your survey, click "Set up a schedule →" to configure automatic exports — daily, weekly or monthly. The file is delivered to your email as an attachment. Available on Starter and higher plans.
Does the export include all responses or only new ones?
By default, every export includes all responses. For scheduled exports you can enable Delta mode — only responses submitted since the last run are included. This is useful for large surveys with thousands of submissions.
Is my survey data stored by GISGP?
No. GISGP queries the ArcGIS Online REST API in real time and streams the file directly to your browser. No survey data is stored on GISGP servers. Only your account settings and schedule configuration are saved.
